About
Charles Wehringer is an American folk artist renowned for his miniature still-life paintings that blend elements of pop art and traditional folk art. Born in Oyster Bay, New York, Wehringer's artistic journey began at an early age. Though largely self-taught, he honed his skills at the Art Students' League of New York. He developed a distinctive style, painting on wood panels in the manner of old masters, capturing everyday objects with meticulous detail and vibrant color.
His works, often depicting farm scenes, fruits, vegetables, and household items, evoke nostalgia and simplicity. These pieces have been exhibited at prestigious venues such as the Museum of American Folk Art and sold at renowned retailers including Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdale's, Lord & Taylor, W. & J. Sloane, and Abercrombie & Fitch. Additionally, his paintings have adorned Cartier's Fifth Avenue windows in miniature room settings.
Wehringer's art has garnered attention in the media, with features like WCBS-TV News in April 1982. He is listed in Who's Who in American Interior Design, and his works are held in private collections globally and have been recognized with awards at events such as the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit and the Promenade Art Show of the Brooklyn Museum Arts and Culture Association.
