ART HANDLER / FRAMING ASSISTANT

Van Der Plas Gallery is seeking an experienced Art Handler / Framing Assistant to join our team on the Lower East Side.

This position is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in art handling, framing, mat cutting, installation, packing, and gallery operations. We are looking for a reliable, detail-oriented individual who is comfortable working with valuable artworks and assisting with exhibitions, installations, and shipping.

 

Responsibilities:
Professional mat cutting and framing
Artwork installation and de-installation
Handling, packing, and shipping artwork
Assisting with exhibition preparation and gallery maintenance
Organizing and maintaining inventory and storage
Assisting during exhibition openings and special events
General art handling and gallery support as needed

 

Requirements:
Previous professional art handling experience
Mat cutting and framing skills
Experience installing framed and unframed artworks
Knowledge of proper artwork packing and handling procedures
Ability to lift and move artworks safely
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred:
Experience working in galleries, museums, framing shops, or art logistics
Familiarity with contemporary art
 

This is an in-person position based in New York City.
