JOHN CARNRIGHT: J.M. Carnright’s "PrimitiveFuturisms" concept originated in the mid 1970s in artworks created during this early period in his career.  Stimulated mainly by the artist's pilgrimmage to Eastern and Western Europe, Carnright developed this concept much more thoroughly following 1987 and with the coverage of his artwork by Kunst und Kirche Magazine. Carinright's journey, inspired by European Art Critics/Art Historians and highly published authors (including Dr. Gunter Rombold and Dr. Friedhelm Mennekes), led Carnright to periods of earnest thought, reflection and discovery. This all occurred during his travels when writing, sleeping and dreaming near and within the primal.

ALLEN STAMPER: Allen Stamper was born on Oahu in 1947 and has spent most of his life between Hawaii, New York and Nova Scotia. The son of artist Willson Stamper and celebrated children's book illustrator and writer Martha Alexander Stamper was immersed in the arts early on. Formally, he studied drawing with Joe Fehrer in 1964 at the Honolulu Academy of Art followed by a brief apprenticeship with sculptor Eddie Schillacci in New York in 1965, Stamper's primary focus being sculpture until 1978. In 2001 he studied Renaissance painting technique with Snowden Hodges which prompted his shift to oil painting.

JOHN CARNRIGHT

"Artist & Philosopher, J.M. Carnright’s "PrimitiveFuturisms" concept originated in the mid 1970s in artworks created during that early period. The concept was actualized much more thoroughly following 1987. Its progression was stimulated after the artist's pilgrimage to Eastern and Western Europe and following coverage on his artwork by Kunst und Kirche Magazine. The journey, inspired by European Art Critics/Art Historians and highly published authors, Dr. Gunter Rombold and Dr. Friedhelm Mennekes [Kunst und Kirche Magazine], led to periods of earnest thought, reflection and discovery. This all occurred during his travels when writing, sleeping and dreaming near and within primal

"(Cro-Magnon) European caves, territories and regions. When he reemerged once again from the Vesere River Valley and other primal territories, Carnright’s preliminary theories began to formulate and flower. Art, writing and spirituality are just three of the many life pursuits and life components which will be explored by PrimitiveFuturisms. Carnright's PrimitiveFuturisms evolved and developed via international art exhibits and writings actualized in the early 1970s and continue to today. The first J.M. Carnright New York City PrimitiveFuturisms exhibit entitled "Cro-Magnon + Relic" was held at Ten World’s Gallery in TriBeCA in 1988. WBAI radio (The Charley Finch Show) reviewed and promoted the second New York City Exhibit entitled "PrimitiveFuturisms" in the early 1990s at PDG Gallery. And before that, Carnright exhibited his PrimitiveFuturisms (concept, sculptures and paintings) at Vitek Kruta’s RENOVA Gallery in Warren, Connecticut on the Milos Foreman estate.

"J.M. Carnright has exhibited styles of PrimitiveFuturist works since the mid-1970s at the University of Colorado; S.U.N.Y. Albany, New York; L.A. County Museum of Art, Los Angeles; Kirche St. Peter Museen, Koln, DE.; Rombold Collection, Linz, Austria; Mira-Flores Collections, Peru and elsewhere. In the very early 1970s he created a large earthwork entitled "Earthwork con Boulders" on the Grant-Humphreys mansion grounds in downtown Denver. Anoth er (SwingTime) followed around 1974 at the University of Colorado (Denver Center) along with subsequent sculptural projects. He considers these all very early representations of PrimitiveFuturist artworks. A well-received, highly attended, successful one artist exhibit took place in New York City's Chelsea Art District in 2005. Many current PrimitiveFurturist forms are deeply carved wood sculptures embedded with 40,000-450 million year old fossils, raw gemstones, dinosaur remnants, timeless meteorites and elements indicative of the great past and future of Earth."

My meeting with John Carnright became one of my most significent art experiences while in New York City!”

ALLEN STAMPER

Allen Stamper was born on Oahu in 1947 and has spent most of his life between Hawaii, New York and Nova Scotia.

Stamper's paintings have since been featured in several juried shows including Artists of Hawaii at the Honolulu Academy of Art, the Schaefer Portrait Challenge at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, a two-person show at the Koa Gallery, and several other two person and group shows.

"In Stamper's portraits, paint is applied with energetic accuracy so as to look both improvised and calculated, while the soul of each subject is illuminated with uncanny precision."

"In Stamper's works, you can see what he describes as "snapshots of little occurrences that mark me in some say". It's been said that the artist expresses not what his eyes see but only what he subjectively experiences. Stampers work grapples eloquently and confidently with his inner life, and it is in this dimension that the work speaks to our inner feelings."

David C. Farmer, Art Critic, Honolulu Advertiser
