The Depth of Make Believe

for Beaty Czeto

two dimensions imagine a third

creating space between the legs

of a body of ancient knowledge

flesh rushes over the roots of sculpture

that is informed by the overlap of flat depth

lines intertwine in a field of limitations

as the skin of absence covers the flatness

with an illusion of bones and muscle

the human form is gripped with abstraction

and struggles to maintain its sense of self

as the colors of ego create a fertile foreground

where the memory of future figures

rise up from the make believe like a tree
